Further advices from .Rio Jauiero state Commodore Weed and party, who went to Brazil’ to negotiate for lands for some six hundred Southern planters, met with an enthusiastic reception. The President promises all aid in furtherance of the project, i Land has been purchased in Lexington, Virginia, for a home for General Lee, and appeals are being made for | money to erect a house. George Thomas, son of Sir William \ Thomas, Baronet, of England, has been arrested and locked up in the Tombs to await trial. He is charged with forging [ hills of credit on Duncan, Sherman, and ; Co., of this city. The Fenians arc quiet, excepting occasional demonstrations with rockets and firearms. There is a rumour prevalent that tho British Government lias instructed Sir 1 Frederick Bruce to remonstrate with our Government against the movements I of the Fenians in this country.
