AUCKLAXI) LIVE STOCK MARKET. )U'.. ALFRED 111 a Kl.Ami's WEEKLY RKI'ORT. At the Hayiuarket, on Saturday last, hay was ill average supply, and of g 1 quality. Prices were h.wer, meadow hay bringing from 2s Gd to :ls and oats and hay, os the cwt. Maize brought 'is 9d. Oats from 5s 3d to 5s 9d, the bushel. Peruvian guano, £ls to £lO per ton. For draught horse stock there was an improved inquiry and a free, sale; those offered realising trom £25 to £l2 each ; but riding horses and inferior stock were, it possible, lower in price. For the allotments at Otabuhu there was not much competition. At the auction two lots only were sold, bringing respectively lis. and 275. per foot. After the sale another lot was sold at 30s. the foot. Two lots remain unsold. At Otahuhu, on Tuesday; there was a fair muster of grazing cattle, for which there was a good competition. The demand for this description of stock is in excess of supply. The sheep fair held at Newmarket, on Wednesday, was very numerously attended. About 1,200 sheep were'penned, and" 1,100 of those .sold. For the Downs there was no enquiry, although those penned were of excellent quality, and would have taken prizes in an English exhibition. They are evidently not favouiites with our graziers. Their superior qualities for early lamb and mutton being overlooked in the desire for a heavy fleece of long wool. [The full particulars of prices realised we give in another column.] At Newmarket, on Thursday, there was a full .upply of r.,i cuttle, a few very prime unimotn only bringing previous prices; on the greater number there was a decline of ss. the 1001b. Store cattle were more plentiful than for some time past; they maintained their previous high rates. There is a steady inquiry, at lull prices, for quiet heifers and weaned calves for the bush farms. Dairy cows offer in moderate numbers, and are in much request; ordinary good animals bringing from £ll to £l7 each. The sheep market was very bare ; a full supply of lambs for the butcher, of good quality, sold well, bringing trom 24s to 33s Gd each; three pens only selling at 20s. to 225. each. Consequent on the short supply, fat sheep were higher in price fully Id. per lb. Merino wethers bringing 2Gs, to :325". earl:. The pens in the pig market were all tilled with stock of good quality ; prices were well sustained throughout, particularly for stores, and sows in farrow.
