P>r the arrival of the ' Queen,' we are placed in possession of two days' later news from the South, but there is little to lay before our readers. At Invercargill, McConnell had been tried for the murder of Mrs. Farrar. The trial took place before Mr. Justice Richmond and resulted in the acquittal of the prisoner. From Otago we learn that Mr. Bathgate had retired from his canditure for Port Chalmers. From Wellington we receive the news of a daring act of burglary committed at the Colonial Museum, when property to the value of about £2OO was stolen. A reward oi' £2OO has since been offered for the apprehension of the burglars. From Hawke's Bay it is reported that a number of Hau haus had given themselves up at Wuikaremoana. At Napier Richard Fundi had beeu tried tor the murder of Mr. Thomas Foan, fouud guilty, and sentence I to death.
