Crinoline Statistics. *'A calculation has been made," says toe Saint Public, of Lyons,. "on the subject of crinolines, which is worthy of attention. Those dresses, in fact, require three metres more material tban the ordinary ones. As no less than 20 mil ions of ladies' dresses are made every \ ear in Fram-e, the additional quantity used is 60 millions •f metres, which, taken at the average price of 2f. per metre, makes a sum of 120 million of francs. In addition mast be mentioned two extra petticoats required for those ample dresses, and the material for which cost 120 millions more. -Steel cages most.also be taken into account, and as they cannot be estimated at Jess than 15f. each, a farther sum of ISO millions must be added. These three sums together make a tribute of 390 millions, or about one-fifth of the State budget, paid to a ridiculous and raoonvenieat fashion."
