PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.

BUSINESS FOR THIS DAY. Mr, Wynn to ask the hon Provincial Treasurer, “By what authority a portion of the allotment on which the Council Chamber is erected has been enclosed and built upon ” Mr. Swanson to ask the Provincial Treasurer, “ If it is the intention of the Government to open any roads in that part of the Northern Division lying between the Whau, Manukau Harbour, the West Coast, Waitakerei, and the North Road.” Dr. Pollen to ask the Provincial Secretary, “ Whether or not any appointments other than those specified in the return transmitted by his Honor the Superintendent, and ordered by this Council to be printed on the 11th October instant, have been made by his Honor the Superintendent.” Dr. Pollen to ask, “ Whether any steps have been taken to obtain for this Council the information relative to the appointment of W. C. Daldy, Esq., by the General Government to bo agent in Englan I for the Bay of Islands settlement, requested in the Address No. 25, of dale October 18th instant.” Mr. Cadman to move, “ That the petitions of J. H. Drabble, Andrew Otto, and Ann Huff, bo referred to the Private Grievance Committee.” Mr. McGee to move, “ That the petition of Isaac Gwynne be referred to the Private Grievance Committee.”

Mr. O’Neill to move, “ That an address be presented to his Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to place a sufficient sum on the supplementary estimates to complete the public works near Manary’s, on the road leading from the North Shore into the interior.”

Mr. Harrop to move, “That with the view of enabling the members of this Council, resident in the country, taking part in the debate when in committee on the estimates, the Government be requested to fix upon one day a week for such consideration.” Dr. Pollen to move, “ That an address be presented to his Honor the Superintendent, requesting, that he will lay before this Council copy of all correspondence relative to the ordering and obtaining of the stone-breaking machinery, for the superintendence of which an engineer has been recently appointed.” Dr. Pollen to move, “ That an address be repsented to his Honor the Superintendent, requesting that he will lay before this Council a statement showing the condition of the Half-million Loan Account on the 30th September ultimo.” Dr. Pollen to move, “That an aldrcssbe presented to his Honor the Superintendent, requesting that he will lay before this Council copy of the letter or letters of credit with which Captain Daldy was furnished on the occasion o: his appointment as emigration agent and special agent for the Executive Government of this Province.”

Hr. Carletos to move, “ That the report of the select committee on the Water Works Bill, in so far as it relates to amendments in the bill, be adopted.” Mr. Oarletok to move, “ That the Highway Amendment Act be re-committed.” Mr. Cadman to move, on the order of the day for the third reading of .the Highways Amendment Bill, “ That it be re-commitied for the purpose of the insertion of the following clause ‘lt shall be lawful for the majority in number of the persons qualified to vote under th 'provisious of the Highways Act, 1862, who have been enrolled as electors of their respective districts accordingly, to present to the Superintendent the memorial referred in section 3 of said Act.’ ” Mr. Wynn to more, “ That a respectful address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to place on the supplementary estimates a sura of £3OO, in addition to the sum of £IOO, on the estimates, for the Provincial Council Library.” Mr. King to move, “ That the petition of G. H. Lavers be referred, to the Private Grievance Committee.”

Mr Gallaugher to move, “ That a respectful address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting him to send down to this Council copies of all reports of the Engineer-in-Chief on the alterations on and the additions to the old wharf at Onehunga, and also that copies of his reports on the proposed new wharf at Onehunga be laid on the table of this Council with as little delay as possible, Mr. Harrop to move, “ That his Honor the Superintendent be requested to urge on the District Com-

It runs thus : ‘ That liis Honor the Superintendent bo requested to send down to the Provincial Council, at its first meeting, a bill for the purpose of vesting the harbour endowments of the port of Onehunga in Commissioners, with the necessary papers.’ ” Dr. Pollen to ask the Provincial Treasurer, Whether any correspondence has passed between the General and Provincial Governments on the subject of the apportionment of the Custom’s revenue for the year 1865,” ORDERS OF THE DAY.
