Mangawai Agricultural Show. —The first exhibition pi this newly formed Society, was held on Thursday, 29th January. The entries were far below the anticipations of the Committee, and the progress of the settlement Diffidence on the part of the settlers might have been the cause of so few coming forward, but that is a drawback which will probably wear away by this time next year. At al! events a beginning has been made, which we hope will lead to better things. The show was held in the paddocks attached to Mr. Mooney’s Inn, at Mangawai, which had been kindly placed at the disposal of the Society. In the afternoon the members and friends dined together, Captain Tuner, J.P., in the absence of Mr. R.°Skeen (the President), occupied the chair. After dinner, the Hon. Secretary, Mr. Haselden, read the following list of prizes, &c. : CATTLE. Cows—-Ist prize, Mr. Hull ; 2nd prize, Mr. Eyre. Heifers—lst prize, Mr. Mooney. Steers —Ist prize, Mr. Haselden. FIELD AND GARDEN PRODUCE. Vegetable Marrow,' Captain Moir, prize. Carrots and Turnips ~ ~ Qats, .. u Linseed, ,• ~ Agktefil IrwuoueSi u u SU'-ftvv-OaWy Jam up
Beans and Peas, Sir. J. Brown, Arai, prize. Brown Portugal Onions ~ ~ White Globe Turnips ~ „ Barley, „ ~ Wheat, Mr. Conway, prize. Butter, Mr. Pi s. Pigs, Mr. Mooney, prize. Dray and team of four bullocks, Mr. Hull. The following articles were also exhibited, for which no award was made, but were all highly com • mended : Naked or skinless oats; white potatoes; red gooseberry jam; turkeys, geese and ducks —Exhibited by Captain Moir. Green cos lettuce; potatoe onions; curled parsley; onion „ced; tobacco.—Exhibited by Mr. J. Brown. The Silver Cap presented by F. 11. Hull, Esq., J.P., was awarded to Captam Moir, as the gainer of the largest number of pr'zes., Judges:—Mr.\West, Ornawbaro; Mr. Ross, Titiranginui; -Mr. G. Harden, Arai.
