NATIVE LAND PURCHASES.

Itj tho Editor of the New-Zealander. ' Sin,—lt is not my intention at present to raise any discussion on the subject of Mr. Robert Graham’s views ol the Native Land question, but in bis speecli on the hustings yesterday be made a very great mistake as to a matter of great importance to the formation of correct views upon that subject. He stated that the Natives would jiot sell land to the Government; that the Government could net get land to purchase, although a sum of £50,000 was lying ready for that purpose ; and, therefore, some now system must be adopted. 1 wish Mr u Kogan would tell us what his views were as to the possibility of his purchasing more land for the Government before the passing ot Mr. Graham’s pet act. I feel pretty sure ho will not indorse Mr. Graham’s statement. But at all events,on looking into the Government Gazette, of which, 1 doubt not, Mr Graham receives a copy, I find that, between the 2nd December, 1861, and the 6th October in the present year, the Government has notified that the Native title has been extinguished over nearly one hundred thousand acres. Surely, this was not amiss in ten months. Scrutator. Gtli November, 1862.
