APRIL—MAT
New Moon, 28th, llh. 48m. a.m. FARMING AND GARDENING. Field.—Commence sowing wheat, if the land is in a fit state, about one and a half bushels per acre ; in England, three to four bushels, and in New South Wales, one bushel per acre, is sown; see that the drains are cleared and trimmed for the winter rains, and finish the heavy carting so long as the roads are firm. Gjirdkm. Continue to plant potato-onions; sow seeds of the various vegetables to stand the winter. Fruit.—Plant fruit trees; clear strawberry beds, and give a top dressing of fresh soil and dung miaed; if in rows, di;» between them and spread a little of the fiesh soil over the plants. Flowers.—aow annuals; every opportunity shoald be taken for planting flowering shrubs, such as roses, flowering currants, Italian may, pyrus japonica, laurustinus, &c.; also climbers, honeysuckles, jasmines, &c, and prune those already established; herbaceous p'ants should be put out without delay ; plant bulbs ; phloxes now readily increase by dividing the roots ; if any fresh arrangements are to be made in the flower beds, this is the season for doing it.
