MR. BUSBY THE KAURI-GUM TRADER AND SEPARATIONIST.
To the Editor of the New-Zealandek. Sir,—l observe that " S," the writer of the papers on the Sparation qustion, which have recently appeared in your journal, refers to Mr. Busby's connexion with the " gum trade." I forward to you for publication the report of proceedings in the Supreme Court, as published at the time, in an action brought by one of our oldest Northern settlers, against the said Mr. Busby. Probably " S," in his Memorials of the Past, might have overlooked this particular case; but I think it would be a pity if new arrivals were not made acquainted with a circumstance in the history of the Colony which may help to illustrate the character of one who continues to put himself forward, for his own selfish purposes, as nn active promoter of a separation of this great Colodv. I have, &c, C D. April 17th, 18621.
