RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

MONDAY, JANUARY 6xa. James Ingham was charged with an indecent assault on a child "named Mary Anne Gordon, between four and five years of age. The prisoner was committed for trial. He has been twice previously convicted of similar offences. The Stabbing Case. Daniel Burke was again brought up on remand. Mr. Commissioner Naughton said he had received information from the surgeon at the Camp that Ileslin was improving, and he therefore asked for a remand till Thursday next. Remanded till Thursday. Felony. George Thomas Farrell, an apprentice, charged with absconding from his master, was remanded till Tuesday. A warrant having been issued against him on a charge of stealing from the person. Assault. George Cummings charged Philip Halloren with violently assaulting him on Christmas Eve. Complainant stated that he lived in Elliotf street, and a* he was returning home, at about a quarter to eleven on Christmas Eve, he was pelted with stones by some boys just as he was going through the * White Hart” gateway. He was pursuing two of there when he was attacked by the defendant and some other men, and knocked down and violently kicked. Defendant called two witnesses (on« of whom was lately fined 40s. and costs for his share ef the assault), who stated that Cummings gave the first blow, on Halloren going up to him and remonstrating with him for beating the boys. Cummings they aid was drunk. The evidence being so contradictor}, the case was dismissed. Mr. A. Mears charged Henry Haris with using abusive and threatening language to bin. Ordered to enter into his own botd for £SO, and find two sureties for his good behavioui for 3 months. Walton was sent to gaol for S days for being drunk.
