Maritime Record.

The clipper schooner Gazelle, Captain Cunningham, arrived from Sydney yesterday about 2 p.m., after a nine days passage. She took her departure from Port Jackson Heads on the Bth at 8 am,. With a fresh breeze at South, similar weather prevail- , during the following day, in the course of which she passed large spar, the lower mast of some large ship, which bore the appearance of not having been very long in the water. On the 10th. moderate weather, and at 10 a.m. in company with a large ship, under canvas, and which, from the funnel that was discernible, she concluded to be H.M. corvette Cordelia bound for Norfolk Island. Light Northerly winds during the Htb and 12th, which veered to N.E. on the 13th. On the 14th the wind shifted suddenly to S.W. At 10.30 a.m. that day ,i g hted a large ship steering West, and another standing to the Eastward. On the 15th experienced fresh N.E. winds: at 2.30 ni., sighted a brig running to the Eastward, supposed to be lb* Moa, passed her at 7 P-m. about 50 miles to the Westward «f the Three Kings. This, we believe, is the fourth time that the Gazelle has made the voyage from Auckland to Sydney and back (under her present owners), within thirty days. The brcadaibaue was on the berth, to follow shortly. The Gazelle had not long brought up, when she was followed Into port by the favourite packet brig Moa, Captain Bowden, which sailed from Port Jackson Heads on the morning of the Bth at 9 o’clock, with a moderate breeze at S. W., which, at noon, shifted from S. E. to S. S. E. with a cross sea. On the 9th, two ships (u company ; and oo the 11th, at noon, Howe’s {aland bore N. by W. distant CO mites. On Sunday, at noon, exchanged signals with the brig Sarah, Captain Firth, 115 miles to the Westward of Cape Maria Van Diemen; and at 4 p,tn. of the same day fell in with the schooner Gazelle. A considerable degree of interest has been entertained in respect to the passages up and down of these two fine vessels, both of which s*e a credit to the port of Auckland. Each has well acquitted herself, and neither can claim any especial triumph oter the other. Both took advantage of tneflood tide to drop their kellicks close to the pier, alongside of which they took their berths in the course of the evening. It is with a very sincere regret that we copy the following tad paragraph from the Sydney Heiald of the 7th. Death, of late, has been very busy with our fellow colonists, not merely incur own, but in the neighbouring waters: — •• Melancholy Accident.— This morning, outside the entrance of the Port Philip Heads, the brig Gil Bias, of Geelong, from Auckland, was struck by a heavy sea, when four persons were carried overboard and drowned. The following y are the names of the parties: Wedgwood, master; J. Simpson, teaman; J. Bell, and Frederick Brown, passengers.” The Breadalbane arrived at Sydney on the 25th tilt., after 5 protracted passage of nineteen days. The Moa, hence the 17th April, arrived at Sydney on the Ist,: and the Gazelle, hence the 10th April, on the 2.id inst. The schooner Emily Allison arrived the same day, after a tedioui passage of 25 days. She is advertised for sale. The clipper ship Caduceus, Captain Cass, sailed from Falmouth for Auckland on the 13th; and the barque Traveller, Capt. Ellis, from Deal on the 19th February. The Airedale, (j. s.' Captain Slater, sailed from Gravesend, for Canterbury, on the 20th. The Margaretha Koesner, Capt. Eggers, sailed from Deal on the 19th; and the Reullura, Captain Gibbs, on the 17th, both for Wellington: the Victory, Capt. Stephens, for Canterbury, from Deal, on the 3rd February. There were loading for Auckland, the British Queen, Swordfish, and Whirlwind. For Canterbury—the Cameo, For Nelson—Queen of the Avon, and Creswell. For Otago—lieu* bury, and Avondale.
