' WEEKLY TRADE REPORT. Empire Office, Friday Evening, J3lh January. Our markets daring Ore past week have been very quiet, and b'lt little business has been done, either with the interior or for export. Importers generally have shown, less anxiety to force sales; and in many articles of leading consumption, better prices have obtained. We may expect a brisk demand for the nrxt three months, at rates far more satisfactory than have ruled latterly. The Shanghai steamer is anxiously looked for, as the advices by her will probably have considerable inllueace upon our marketw—both ia European and Eastern produce. Arrivals from English and foreign poita during the week are—the Minolta, from Valparaiso, with flour ; the A. II M. S. Co.’s steamer Australian, from Loudon : Khoue, trom hingapore; Howard, and Charlotte, from Hamburgh: Earl Selkirk, Mary Hall, an 1 Anna Margarclba, from London; all with general merchandise. CKANDY-Wc quote an advance of one shilling per ga'lon, with considerable animation in the market ; ami holders anticipate % imtlier advance. The cargo of hysouskin, from Canton, ex Mary Ray, was, on Tuesday, tried at auction, but withdrawn at hi ms per cheat. . . . Wooller, of the Bull’s Head Horse Repository reports the market as being overstocked with inferior horses, thereby causing a great drawback, although the attendance at his sales during the week was numerous. Prices for superior animals are maintained, and a gieat many have bee., sold at a high figure, as follows Superior draught horses, from £4O to £7O; ditto, light, £2O to £3 > ; ditto, carriage and gig. £25 to £3o'; ditto saddle, £t(t to £3O; ditto stock, £‘o t.. £ls: Mr. C. Martyn reports the horse sales have been again well attended during the week, and prices have maintained Dalasi week’s quotations; the market has, however, ben very barely supplied with horses of a good description, with the ex ception of a batch of twenty of very fair quality, from the stud of Henry Osborne, Esq., of Woollongong, wnicli realised an an average of £33 each. First-class heavy draughts are much wanted, as are also well-trained carriage pairs (which would command £;oo to £150), and gig horses. The prices have ranged during the week as follows:—Good draught horses, from j6'4o to £SO Ids; carriage pairs, from £65 upwards; gig horses, from £3O to £SO; hackney, from £25 to £4O ; inferior horsts, £S upwards. LEATitEß—Prices have undergone no change in this article since last quotations, viz : —(T. C.
