ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the New Zealandeu. Sir, — I was glad to observe in your last a bit of wholesome advice to the Electors on their selection of representatives for the Provincial Council, and it affords me pleasure to find that a request to Mr. Hartley to come forward as a Candidate is in course of signature to-day. He is a man we all know well, and such a man as I believe would come up to your description of the sort of men we want for our legislators — " men, who by their moderation in political opinions — their non-identification with extreme party — would be likely to direct their influence to the real welfare of the Province." I trust the Electors will all look upon the matter in the same light, and choose men of this stamp, rather than those who have old scores to settle with the Government, which it would be their first concern to clear off, before any thing' like unprejudiced and dispassionate consideration of beneficial measures for the general weal might be expected from them. — I am, &c, &c., / A Citizen of Auckland. July 6, 1852.
