Be just ami fenr not: L"t all the emU thmi aims't at, be thy Country's, Th)' Goo's, and Truth's. The Fanny Morris, schopner, ■ arrived from Sydney, on Friday morning, having leit tiiat port on the Ist inst.; and brought the Eno-lish mail of the Ist Oct., per the Midlothian to Sydney, as well as the later intelligence, from England, to the ISth Oct., by the General Hewitt, which left the Downs, on the 22nd Oct., and arrived in, Sydney, on the 21st January, .making the passage in ninety days. The intelligence from England is without in- f
terest. It does not appear, that any account has reached r England from New Zealand, respecting the affair at the Bay of Islands, of the Bth May, 1845; although the embarkation of Colonel Despard, from Sydney, to take the command of the troops in New Zealand is noticed in the English papers. It will be remembered, that the date of Colonel Hulme's despatches to Governor Fitzroy, detailing a summary of his operations,- were dated 27th May, and the first opportunity, afterwards, of sending to England, from Auckland, was on the 12tlr.June, by the Lady Leigh, to Sydney. Colonel Despard. arrived in Auckland, in the British Sovereign, on the Ist June, having left Sydney, about the middle of May; consequently, bis departure from New South Walds, would be known itf England, some time before the events here, in the .month of May. In tlie Sydney papers,, it is rumoured that Sir George Arthur, the present Governor of Bombay, and formerly .Governor of Van Dieman's Land, will succeed Sir George Gipps in New South Wales ; and that Sir H. Pottinger-, is to be Governor of Bombay. The ship Jane Woodhall, 380 tons, is laid on at Sydney, to carry cattle and sheep to AucklandThe Lady of the La i ke i from Nelson to Manukao, lias brought us Nelson pipers, —but they are destitute of any news, later than that received by the Comet from Wellington.
