By the arrival of the Star of China from Sydney, on Thursday, we have received papers to the 18th January ; but they contain no later intelligence from England ihaja that brought to Hobart Town by the Tasmania, which left England on the 28th September. The Midlothian, Postoffice packet, for Ist .October, was daily expected from London.
-The -Government brig Victoria arrived from the Bay of Islands on Sunday lastThere are reports of the instability of Hekes observance of peace ; but from the best authority we learn that Heke had been on a visit to Pomare, and that they had been indulging in copious potations for some days, during which time of excitement arid inebriety Heke had expressed himself in rather warlike terms, — but there were no real grounds to fear any recurrence of actual hostilities, as Hekes influence with the Natives had considerably diminished— and, by Kawiti and other chiefs, was quite disregarded.
