Miss | Freeland hud been visiting a friend at Grey Lynn, and was returning home along the Point Chevalier road shortly after ten o'clock. "When near the Western Springs, in a rather lonely 1 part of the road, she heard quick foot- | steps behind her, and at the same mo- § ment received a violent blow on the I head, which dazed her. She raised her [ hand to her head and immediately re- g . ceived a second blow, which fell partly E on her fingers. The second blow felled 1 , her to the ground, but she did not entirely lose consciousness. No further j attack was made, however, and there j was no attempt at robbery.' Miss Free- ■ land states that she saw nothing of her \ assailant, and, beyond hearing the foot- | steps before receiving the first blow, g heard nothing.
