THIRTY .MILLION TREES. PLANTED. DUNEDJN, January 14. The Prime 'Minister mentioned to a deputation from the Otngo Expansion League and the Dnnedin Chamber of Coiiimeivc on Saturday night that a dearth of labour and ut decrease in the number of prisoners were responsible for the curtailment of afforestation in different parts of the Dominion, but a great deal of afforestation had yet lo be done. There had been planted up-to-date no fewer than :.!l),OUO,00() trees, it was the intention of the Government,. Mr ilassey said, to set up a ■Forestry Department, and he could assure the deputation that the Minister iiii charge would be .very enthusiastic.
