PAPAKAIO DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Papakaio Defence Rille-Club was hold in the hall on Friday, when there was a good attendance of members. President Lister occupied the chair. The annual report was as follows:

"'Although the strength of the club has been further reduced by members being called to the colours, the past season was" on the whole a very successful one. This was owing chiefly lo the enthusiasm of those members who made a point of attending regularly.

'' To encourage interest the committee inaugurated a series of weekly matches, which were conducted under an automatic system of handicapping. Great interest was taken in these contests, and as a result the shooting of mem•bers showed a great improvement.

"During the season matches were fired with the Glenavy and Enfield Rifle Clubs and with the National Reserve, the club winning those against Glenavy and Enfield. "Twelve members of the club are

now on active service or in training. Of these Private W. B. Allan is returning invalided home, while last week the sad news came to hand (hat Private R. Wilson had lost his left foot. The club hopes to soon have the pleasure of welcoming both- these members safely home,

"The financial position of the dub is a very satisfactory one. The total receipts for the year were £4O Ms 3d, expenditure £2B Gs lid, leaving a credit balance of £l2 7s 4d.

"The.club's gold medal for aggregate scores was won' by Rifleman B, M, Borrie, while trophies presented by the president, Mr R. Borrie, were won by President Lister and Rifleman A, Beardsmore."
