CHRISTCJIURCH GRAIN ANI PRODUCE MARKET. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCIIURCII, September 11,

The only business doing in the local market is in potatoes. There have been a number of inquiries from Auckland, but the prices offered have not met merchants' views. The Wellington market appears to be a little easier, judging from the tone of letters received by merchants from there. There is a fairly large quantity of potatoes offering by growers, and several merchants who bought considerable quantities last week are now inclined to ease off. Tluese purchases were made, in many instances, at'£3 at country stations, and at £3 ;3s in store. There are few sellers at present at less than £3 os .at country stations, and some are asking £3 7s Gd,

WAIAREKA STOCK SALE. There, was only a moderate number of buyers present at the usual weekly sale . at Waiareka yards yesterday, the drizzling rain, which commenced early in the forenoon, no doubt to a great extent militating against the attendance, sHowever, bidding was brisk, and some good prices were realised. There was a fair yarding of sheep, and late prices were maintained. There was a capital yarding of cattle. 'Fats and stores were quitted at good prices, which, in some instances, compared favourably with outside markets. The number of pigs on,offer was up to the average, but, compared with the previous week, there was a slight decline in prices. 1 The following sales were made:—
