Y.M.C.A. WAR WORK.

NORTH OTAGO SOLIER'S TESTIMONY.

The tributes to the war work of the Y.M.C.A, by the soldiers both in training camps and in the trendies are an ever increasing testimony to the value of that work among the men for whom it is undertaken. Writing from France to friends at 'Windsor, Rifleman L, Ileydo'n speaks in most appreciative terms of the Y.M.C.A. He had at the time of writing just hoard of the appeal being mado "n North Otago on behalf of the institution, and says that no one could canvass for .1 better cause. II is, lie says, a God-send to every soldier, and it is impossible to tell what they would do without it. From the first day Rifleman Ileydon 'went into training at Trentham until the time of writing— | 18th 'May, 1917 —when lie was right up at the front, he says he has everywhere met the well-known sign of the Red Triangle. All the boys greatly appreciate what the Y.M.C.A. does for them, ■particularly when they come out of the trenches, often wet through and covered in mud up to the waist. The . Y.M.C.A, is always ready to welcome the men with hot tea or coffee and re- , freshments. And when the men go on leave to England they are .always met by Y.M.C.A. workers, and arc offered accommodation at one of the many huts throughout London. At these huts ;ieals. are served at a very reasonable cost, and the men can get hot and cold baths and good bods, all of which, of course, are much appreciated. Rifleman Ileydon says he hopes all the newspapers will help'the Y.M.C.A. in their appeals' for assistance, especially as before tjie war the institution was a good deal "cried down" by many fellows •who have since.had reason to bo very grateful for its services. ■
