COMMISSIONER'S APPEAL.
WELLINGTON, July IS. "The circumstances have not altered, except in one direction—the ranks have been still further depleted—since I was last before-the Board." Thus Mr J. o '.Donovan, Commissioner of Police, before the Third Military Service Board to-day, when he appealed on behalf of ten police constables from various parts of New Zealand.' Mr o'Donovan handed a confidential statcmentto the board, and said:—"lt is going on all the time, a constant drain on the force. Men are continually going over to the Army. J appeal on the ground of public interest." Without any hesitation the board granted adjournments sine die, providing appellants remain in their present positions.
