Greymouth's town clerk, Mr F. H. . Denton, leaves for camp-on the 21st. The -borough engineer, Mr W. J. O'Doniiell has been appointed temporary to the positions of acting-town clerk, treasurer, and returning officer. At the last meeting of the council Mr Denton was grant- • cd three months' leave of absence on full pay.

Private John Howdcn, wounded on June 19, is a son of Mr and Mrs James Howdcn, of Waikaka Valley. He was born twenty-three years ago at Ngapara, and educated there and at Waikaka Valley.
