PBQPOSED ESTABLISHMENT AT

NEW BRIGHTON,

An application has been received by the Now Brighton, ,Boroiigh Couwil from Mr Leslie A, Maenrthur, for tho lease of an area comprising 400' acres within the est amy at South Brighton, as a site for the erection of buildings, plant etc., for the construction of "marine olech'ic solar sal t works.'' Mr Macartluir said in hU'letter he had interviewed Mr Cyrus Williams, secretary of the Lytteltan Harbor Board, .who had given him to mid':'/stand that he (Mr Williams) could not see auy likelihood of objection to tho proposal. The demand for salt far exceeded the supply. No less than £73,500 worth of salt was annually imported into New Zealand.
