Argentine mutton anil lamb are very scarce, and there are small supplies of Canadian lambs. New Zealand mutton, B£d per lb, ewe mutton," Sid; Argentine mutton, lOd; New Zealand lamb, lOd; Argentine lamb, lid, Argentine beef is in small supply, llinds, 13d; fores, 10|d, Butter.—The market is in active demand owing to slioit supplies. Danish, 210s to 213s per c\vt; New Zealand salted, 198s to 200s (quotations nominal owing to the small supply); Australian salted, Wis';' unsalted, 104s; Irish creamery mltefl, 'l!)Gs;' Argentine, no supplies available.

Cheese.—There arc no official quota tions.

Hemp.—Manila hemp is in fair supply this week. Prices remain steady. Small sales have taken place. Government graded fair Manila (mutilated word here), £BG per ton. For New Zealand spot the market is linn, Near at hand New Zealand good fair £9G; fair, on spot, fill. Business lias been done with Zealand high point fair, Julv to Januarv shipment, at £B7. j '

Wheat,—The market steady at Jast quotations. Moderate business ' lias been done. No, 2 Manitoba Northern, nlloat, 80s; No. 2, Red Winter, 795. Oats—The market is very quiet, but it shows no quotable change.

CHRISTCIIURCII GRAIN MARKETS. (Por Press Association.) CHRISTCIIURCII, July 17. There is nothing of important to not? in the local grain market. A cargo of Australian wheat is expected ;lo be delivered at Lyttelton, Tinlaim, and Oamani in August. Application lias been made to the Minister of Agriculture, to have the price' of Hour readjusted, the present- price in Auckland 'being £lO, and in Canterbury £ls per ton f.o.b. At the pi-ice that the Australian wheat is being sold at, Hour can be made iu Auckland at a profit, and in Canterbury it will be made at a loss.

Oats are meeting with good inquiry, but they are very scarce, anil holders are asking high prices. The potato market is still very dull, and there is no change to note. CHAIN AND PRODUCE SALES, Messrs Dalgety and Co. report as follows:—Oats: Except for bright heavy lines suitable for seed and milling requirements, the market is quiei-.' For all lines of the former qualify late rates are maintained, while (lie demand is somewhat slack for discoloured and feed lines of medium quality. Messrs Donald Roid and Co, report:—Oats: At present the demand is only for prime heavy Gartons, but for other classes the market is quieter, and sales are difficult to effee 1 on the basjs of late quotations. Prime milling, 4s to 4s Id; good to best feed, lis lOd to 3s lid; inferior to medium, lis 3(1, to 3s 9d per bushel (sacks extra), Wheat: Only moderate lines of prime milling wheat are offering, and meet with ready sale, at Government valuations. Fowl tvjieat is scarce, ami best- quality is readily sold at 5s 10d to (is per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes: Fair supplies have been coming forward, but in many cases the quality and condition of the potatoes are not all that could be desired. Any lots of prime wellgraded potatoes meet with ready sale at late quotations. Well graded table potatoes, lii to £5 ss; medium to good, £4 10s to £4 15s; others, £4 to £4 as per ton (sacks included). Chaff: Prime oaten sheaf chaff is in good demand, and any lots coming to hand arc eagerly sought after. Medium and inferior have had more inquiry during the past week. Prime oaten sheaf, £5 15s to £5 17s Gd; choice black out, to £li; medium to good, £5 to £5 455; light and discoloured. £4 5s to £4 15s 'per ton (bags exlra).

WAIABEKA STOCK SALE. Though there v.as -only a medium yarding of stock in all classes at the saleyards yesterday successful sales were reported in all lines with the exception of dairy cattle, in which prices dropped below late rates. There -was a tair demand for young cattle but very few were offering. Several really successful sales were made in sheep, the tone in this market having considerably brightened. The yarding -was quoted as follows: Sheep-Fats 35s Gd to 40s, stores 10s (id to 39s Gd; store cattle £2 Gs to £lO 15s; pigs, 2Ss Gd to 30s.
