MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL.

Tl.e ordinary monthly meeting of the ouni'il of the Waitaki Acclimatisation Society was hold in the society's rooms last evening, The president, Mr C. 11. Swinard, occupied the chair, and there were present: Messrs Geo, Drummond, F. W. Onglcv, J. Bennett, W. Dcwar, W, Sumpter, W. E. Budd, J. C. Milligan, W. Duncan, Jonathan Mitchell, E. Farr, ami E, Pipor (secretary). The following correspondence was dealt with:—

The Otago, Marlborough, Wellington and Hawke's Bay Acclimatisation Societies forwarded copies of their reports and balance-sheets. —Received. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote informing the council that in reference to the application for permission to obtain five to ten pairs of opossums from Puke tiro for the purpose of liberating them in the bu3h near Wnianakarua, that the request was receiving consideration.—Received. A further communication was received from the Minister, who wrote stating that the decision would be held over pending the return of the Rt. Hon. Sir Massey, Minister of Lands—Received.

The Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs forwarded copies of a .warrant making special regulations in respect to the sale of meat ami skins of deer killed for culling purposes.—Eeceived.

, A communication was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands in the niatter of the reserve for the society. It was stated that there was a reserve for camping purposes near the Waitaki mouth, but a long way from the old ferry reserve, The only available Crown lands in the vicinity were the islands in the Waitaki river. Further information was required.—Eeceived. To an inquiry for 50,000 brown trout ova, the Minister of Marine replied that the department would, owing to the number of salmon collected at Hakatarameaj be unable to collect or supply any this season—Received.

The Southland Society Wrote offering no objection to the society obtaining opossums in their district for acclimatisation purposes.—Received. An inquiry was received from the Waimnto Acclimatisation Society asking if the society could • hatch about 50,000 trout ova for the' former society al the usual' terms.—-It was resolved? to' reply that the.society'was not in a position to accept'the order, 1 i .
