RED CROSS WORK.

VICTORIA LEAGUE. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Victoria League was held ill the rooms on Tuesday, when the business for the month was dealt with, Owing to the increased cost of materials the society have had to make, further calls on the public to supplement their funds. The "Bag Day," held on the 9th June, was very successful, the demand so much exceeding the supply that the society decided to organise another day this month, the 2Sth July being the date Used. Contributions of bags and lillings will lie acceptable, and may.be left at the rooms on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons. The entertainment organised by Mrs Elcoate and Mrs Eraser was an unqualified success. The league extend their grateful thanks to both ladies and to all wdio assisted them on the splendid result. The first of a series of concerts was given last Thursday evening at the Soldiers' Club. Mr Hurry provided an excellent programme, assisted by Mr and Mrs Elcoate, Misses Dale and Frith, Jlessrs Ifuinphrics, TCowc, Williamson, Leslie, Baldwin, and returned men. Supper was provided by some of the members, Another evening will be held on the 2ml August. The r.\|n'ihiilnrp for the month was fIW.

The society's June shipment consisted of 20 cases, containing 20 soldiers' bags, 02 suits pyjamas, 52 dayshirfs, underpants, sox, liwlervcsts, 112 handkerchiefs, 26 toothbrushes, tooth powder, soap, writing blocks, tins cigarettes, playing-cards, towels, and facecloths; 00 comfort bags containing handkerchiefs, darning wool, 5 dozen pair bootlaces, pocket combs, ncedlebooks, chewing gum, safety pins, cotton and buttons; 1 case woollens, 10 pairs heavy underpants, ?> cardigan jackets, 6 pairs ward shoes, 5 pairs knitted gloves, 5 pairs mittens, a balaclavas, 80 tins condensed milk, 12 packets creamoata, 12 tins cheese, 2!) tins sugar and sweets, 2 dozen jellies, 1 dozen soups, 12 cakea chocolate, 71 books and magazines.
