I RAIDS AND COUNTER-RAIDS IN PROGRESS. ENEMY' ATTACKS DRIVEN OFF. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association and Router). LONDON, July 9. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We successfully made raids south-east of Lagnicotirt and uorth of Yprcs and drove off an attempted raid eastward of Loos. FRENCH FORCES DESPERATELY ' ENGAGED. ENEMY ATTACKS DRIVEN OFF. BRILLIANT CAPTURE OF THREE SALIENTS. (Australian and Reuter). Received July 0, 0.15 p.m. LONDON, July 8. i French communique reports: An intense German bombardment from the north of LafTaux Mill to Froidmont Farm preceded violent attacks in four different sectors on this front. After desperate lighting, the enemy masses were driven off with very heavy losses; and our positions were entirely maintained, Between Les Hovettcs and Froidmont Farm, an attack developed on a front of three kilometres. After several hours' struggle, the enemy was ejected from our first-line which he had penetrated. We appreciably extended the position which we re-took on the first, east of Corny, ami brilliantly carried three strong salients on the left bank of the Mouse, West of Mort Homme and south of Hill ;iO4, the enemy's counter-attacks were repulsed. A wireless German official report says: There are artillery duels on the coast, and Vpres-Wytschoete sectors at Leiis ami between'the Somnie and the Oise. The French attacks westward of Cerny, southward of Laboulle Farm, and southwestward of Ailles, Mount Cornillet, on Hill.;io4, ami on the western slope of j Mort Homme, failed.
