SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

NORTH SCHOOL. Tljc annual meeting; of householders of the North"School district was held in the' schoolroom las evening, at 7.30. There , were twenty-seven present Mr J, Mitchell was voted to the chair. - Thirteen nominations for seats on the committee were received. Messrs 6. A. Travis and G. Sumptor were appointed scrutineers. , The election o£ a committee 'resulted as follows: Messrs Q. McLcod, R Biisbatcli/GI S. Jones, J. Mitchell, N, Mcldrum, S.Mollison, j. Brownlce jun., Jacob Mitchell, and'R, C. Young. A motion was moved and carried that it be u' recommendation to the Education Board to sanction the re-introduction of'slates as a matter of economy in war tiinoV, Mi' Malcolm, the headmas-' ter, pointed out that the use of slates was never prohibited. It was decided to ascertain the opinion of parents on the" question! 4 ,Thc question of excessive honu", orlti then arose and, after considerably discussion, the matter was left in the hands of the teachers.

At a subsequent meeting of the newly elected committee, Mr Jas Mitchell was re-elected chairman and Mr N. Mcldrum was re-elected secretary,

A vote of thanks was accorded to the teachers and retiring committee, which on hohalf of the teachers Mr Malcolm acknowledged. .SOUTH SCHOOL. Twenty-two householders attended the annual election of the School Committee :it the South School last evening. Mr T. Hunter presided. The secretary presented the annual report ami bal-ance-sheet (published previously), and the chairman invited discussion.

Mr A. E. Lawrence, in moving Hie inloption of the report and balancesheet, complimented the teaching staff and the committee upon the splendid work which had been done during the year. He. said that not only had the teachers performed meritorious services in the class-rooms, but tluniks to the keen interest displayed by Mr McLaren and his staff outside the class-rooms, 'he school had won specially creditable honours; in the swimming, • football, cricket, and rille shooting. He was sure he was expressing the feeling of appreciation which existed among the parents in inlying a richly-deserved compliment to the lady teachers of the school,\who had worked so hard both in class and in all branches of school activity.. The speaker made special reference to the generous response of the parents, who had contributed £l3O to.patriotic purposes. It was pleasing to note the perfect harmony which existed between the headmaster and his staff and the committee, and he hoped the good relations'would continue. There had been changes in the staff, but such were inevitable, and the response made by the masters would leave a lasting impression on the scholars. In all spheres of activity the school had made highly creditable progress during the year, and he desired to express, what he felt was the opinion of the parents of the district, I heir heartiest appreciation of 'the efforts which had been made during the year.—(Applause.) The motion wa3 seconded by Mr Gibson, and carried with hearty applause. The following nominations were received: Messrs J. Bee, T. Hunter, T. Kidd, JJ. C. Main. T. McQuinn, J. Gilder, J. Lavender, E. Mahaii, J, MeNarry, A, Gibson, G. Adamson, and A, Forbes. The first nine nominees (the retiring committee) were re-elected.

Mr Lawrence moved: "That the mectin'ii records its appreciation of the splendid work of the"' teaching staff (luring the year, and congratulates them on the success of their efforts." This was seconded by Air Robert Brown, juii., and carried with acclamation,

The headmaster (Mr McLaren), replying on behalf of the staff, thanked the parents for their expression of appreciation. He paid a graceful tribute to (lie painstaking and conscientious work of the staff, specially mentioning the work done by Miss McNaught and the other lady teachers. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting. At n subsequent meeting of the new committee, Mr J. Bee was elected chairman, and Mr R. C, Man secretary. MIDDLE SCHOOL. ■ Fifteen householders -attended the election of the Middle School committee in the schoolroom last evening. The following members of the old committee were present: Messrs W. H. \Vn s t.' 'phal (chairman), F. Chase, J. G.' Mackenzie,'J. H. Grcnfcll, "W. Kinder, and Rev. Dr. Lawrence.

As tlio nominations did not exceed the number required the following were declared elected: Messrs W. H. Westphal, W; Kinder, F, Chase, W. J. Footo, - Clare, J. McLaren and J. G. Mackenzie. Mr Westphal was re-elected chairman, and Messrs Kinder and Chase were elected secretary, and treasurer, respectively, ,

Motions of thanks wero passed to the outgoing committee, the teaching staff, the secretary and treasurer. The new committee decided to meet on the first Tuesday in the month.
