BLOODSTOCK-YEARLING SALE.

TOP PRICE 625 GUINEAS.. CHRISTCHURCH, November 10.. Messrs Payne and Co. held their nnual sale of bloodstock yearlings at Messrs Hay ward nnd Co.'* stable yesterday. Mr A. Boyle was in the rostrum, and there was a large sportsmen, but bidding was not up to expectations, especially at the start. The Kilbroney youngsters were the first to come into the'.iing, but the offerings were very discouraging and Mr J. B. Reid only permitted one to change hands at 260gns, the remainder of the Elderslic stud's contribution being passed in, The Waikanae yearlings next came under the hammer, and were a splendidly conditioned lot, but here again the bids were slow ami discouraging, but Mr Inn Duncan let the majority; of his yearlings go at the best offers, and this fact seemed to inspire confidence in the buyers, who responded more freely after a few lots had changed hands. The Martian youngsters were the next paraded, and were sturdy young ■thoroughbreds. The full sister of Nones. (Martian—Lovelorn) was sold for 350gns, while Ardenvhor's sister only realised) 175gns. The Burnside contribution of young bloodstock presented a lusty appearance, A sister of Ample (Rokcby—Miss Dalrymple) was the first lot submitted and was knocked down at 160gns. The Faxmerc stud offered a handsome All Black—Noctorum colt, which only brought 90gns. Mr Gerald Stead sent in five healthylooking youngsters, but they sold much below values for well-bred stock. The Warrington stud sent up four eolts and a filly, all, by Sarto. They looked small but wonderful wiry and capable of furnishing into good racers, lohn Barleycorn's full brother topped the prices offered with 250gns, Mr Bruce. Christie, Oamaru, submitted two colts and a filly, The first to come forward was.a strikingly useful looking colt of excellent conformation, by Martian from Grand Rain, and although by this time the crowd had thinned down very considerably, fresh interest was revived, and an opening bid of 200gns was. offered. This was advanced rapidly, nnd there were several eager buyers round the ring. He was eventually kuocked down to Mi E. J. Watt for 625gns—the top price of the sale.
