The fight was at a height of two rail.es, between ' thirty-eight enemy machines and three British squadrons, each of ten aeroplanes. The British delivered battle • before the Germans were able to cross the Allies' lines. At one moment seventy machines were engaged in the fight. Firstly a Fokker fell in flames and then a British aeroplane landed in its o\vh lines, badly damaged. Meanwhile the soldiers heard incessant machine-gun and revolver fire overhead and saw at least four German machines drop. After half an hour's fighting the enemy flew back in disorder, the British pursuing them. ,"'.'• (Reutcr's Telegrams.) Received November 13, 6.55 p.m. LONDON, November 12. Renter's correspondent at Headquarters says: , The old, leisur^y.'air. combats have now gone. The combats are now Swifter, more breathless and reckless duels. The Germans are exactly copying our methods, formations, and tactics. The last engagement raged for twenty minutes, five thousand feet among 'the clouds. It was an inextricable tangle of darting, whirling machines. The roar of seventy propellors and the clatter of guns filled the air. A strong wind drifted the battle deeply into enemy country.
