While llie water,sirieVfi wefe handling drums of sulphuric acid on the steamer Moiiowai. to-night, one of the drums burst at flio bung,-throwing tin; ,aeid in a : stream for about twenty feet. Five of the wntorsiflers who wero endeavour,'ing to avoid the fumes slipped to the deck, as did also a. number of Miq others who rushed to their assistance. . As the result, thirteen men were-burned by the acid, eight being now inmates of tJiC hospital, while live were treated as outpatients. Thb men in hospital are burned about the body, five goiiiewhal seriously. They include the chief officer (McLean) of the Monowai, the, remainder being' watersides. McLean is not seriously injured. The most ,seriously injured are Coutts, & single man, and Falkiiev, who is, married.

AUCKLAND, September 7. A boy named Leonard' Toole, aged five year,y was knocked down by a motor car at Newmarket to-night, and died almost immediately. ■
