CHRISTCIIURCH GRAIN MARKET. (Per Press.Association,) CIIRJSTCJIURCH,' September 5. There is very little business doing in wheat, but the •market keeps firm. Offerings are sca/ce, very few samples having been shown for some days past. The Tong'ariro was.to have taken wheat, in her homeward cargo, and it is not likely that further space will be found, for it. There has been a good demand of late for seed oats, indicating that farmers are sowing this cereal instead of wheat, as a spring crop. The potato market is without change, £7 being paid at country stations.

WAIAREKA STOCK SALE,

The yarding of stock for sale at Waiareka yesterday \vas only moderate and consisted principally of storo sheep. Store cattle were in short supply, while dairy cows were prominent and yielded good prices. The following sales were effected;— Fat Sheep. New Zealand lloan and' Mercantile Agency Company sold: Account Theu. Russell, 17 wethers at 24/9, 54 wethers at 22/6, 59 ewes at 21/-, 15 wethers at 26/(3, 14 wethers at 23/1; account J. Morton, 61 s.m. lambs at 16/4. Store Sheep. The National Mortgage and Agency Company offered: Account client, 37!) six and eight-tooth ewes at 30/3 (passed), S2 full and failing-mouth ewes at 23/3 (passed). Dalgety and Co, sold: Account a client 6S full-mouth ewes at 24/7, 20 mixed-sex hoggets at 17/3, 50 full-mouth ewes at 2S/6; account D. McVeigh, 35 ewes at 29/9. North Otago Farmers' Co-op. . CLEARING SALE AT HERBERT. Messrs Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., report having Jicld a very successful clearing sale at Herbert last Thursday, on account of the executors in the late 11. McK. Paterson. There was a large attendance of the public from far and near, and spirited bidding was maintained throughout the sale, the following prices being realised; 103 full and failing-mouthed ewes at 24/3, 64 ewe 3 and lambs at 14/2 (all counted), 5 hoggets at 21/3; geldings sold from £22 10/. to £29; mares £l2, £l2lO/., £ls 5/., £18;' 1 light harness.mare, £6 10/-; 2 colts, £5 to £(i; 1 dairy cow, £lO 10/-; 2 heifers £7 5/-; ',) yearling cattle, 29/-. All implements and sundries were cleared at very satisfactory prices.
