OAMARU FIRE BRIGADE.

The monllily meeting of Hie Oamaru Fire Brigade was held last night. Superintendent W. K. •lames presided, and Hii'iT was a good attendance of members, including liunoniry lilWireman Rowland. Apologies for absence were received from Hydrant man Granger and Fireman Blair. Votes of condolence were passed, on I lie motion of Deputy. Superintendent Couper, to Honorary Superintendent .Mainland, Branclimau Nightingale, and Fireman Macplierson in connection with recent bereavements, members signifying their assent in the customary manlier. The resignation of Foreman A. Hendry, mi account of ill health, was received ami accepted with regret. A motion of thanks-was accorded to Foreman Hendry for providing prizes for the progressive euchre at the social held on August liOth, and also to Mr S. B'lllnrd for supplying the music. It was decided that the cost of the social be defrayed out of the general funds of the brigade. K The appointment of Branclimau Hinkley to the position of foreman of Hie brigade was approved with acclamation. 'FoiM'iiian llinkley returned thanks for the appointment' and assured members he would .do all in his power to advance the efficiency of the brigade. Messrs H. Ilamil and— Donaldson were nominated to till the vacancy in the brigade caused by the resignation of Foreman Hendry, the ballot to be taken at next monllily meeting of the brigade. Fireman Jvcarns was elected branchman and Firemen Macplierson_ and Douglas were appointed assistant braiichmcn.

Messrs S. Ballard, M. llcaly, and A. llendrv wore elected honorary members of tlio brigade, ami Mr J. C. Vcitch was elected an honorary life-member. An invitation was revived from the Hit, Kililii Fire Brigade for their annual social to be held on Friday, Sth September.

.Communications from the front were received from Firemen P. llcaly and A. if. Philp, both of whom nrc at present in France. A vote of thanks to the .chair concluded the proceedings.
