SMALL OUTBREAK QUELLED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September I, News was received last evening by the Auckland agents of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line that a lire had occurred on the steamer Port Nicholson, which left Auckland for Wellington •yesterday alTernooii, Soon after the vessel left the wharf smoke was noticed issuing from tlio i'orepcak. The Port Nicholson anchored off Rangifoto Jsland, and the forepeak was Hooded. Later a wireless message was recuivod stating that the outbreak had been (plellcd. The steamer proceeded on her voyage aliunf f>..'H> p.m. The fire was some distance away from the cargo, bi'iii;; among the ship's stoves. His reported that there was not a great deal of damage done.
