OAMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL

TORTNICiIITLY M'EETING. The ordinary meeting of the Oamarit .Municipal Council took place last, night when there were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. 11. Frith), Councillors J. .Messrs Loo,-Grave ami Grave applied on behalf of Win. Curran (who had enlisted for active service) for council's consent to the assignment of the lease of section 2S, block X., to Messrs .Harbour and Sutherland.—Application approved.

The Borough Inspector reported having inspected the water hole on the. site of the old show grounds, and found an accumulation of water ou the property of Mr Harris, approximating to one foot in depth. The water' was !>•• lioved to be storm water from the recent heavy rain, and the owner of'the property had erected a windmill in order to pump the water into the Arnn street channel.—Received.

The report stated- that the drains and culverts leading info the lagoon badly needed cleaning out, as they had not been cleaned for a considerable time.—Referred to Works Committee with power to act. Frederick Black, M'.I.C.K., engineer to the borough's electricity scheme, wrote in reply to points raised by the Electricity Coininitt.ee regarding flic provision of an auxiliary power plant, and the question of working on such a plant, until sitch time, as prices of material returned to a normal: standard, The engineer gave an opinion that it would be some years before prices reverted to their pre-war level, and advised the council that, notwithstanding
