RECRUITING BOARD AND LOCAL BODIES. At Alio conclusion of the ordinary business of the Waitaki County Council'oll; Saturday, the council considered a great deal of correspondence from tho Recruiting Board, Wellington. Tlio board wrote thanking the council for the work they had accomplished in connection with the recruiting of Waitaki County. The action of the council in this respect had been of the utmost value not only on account of tho actual results of tlio labours but because of the excellent, lead it gave to local authorities in other parts of tho Dominion. The board desired the further assistance of the council by placing before all eligible men their responsibility for registering between the Ist and Kith September. The board pointed out that any shortage in. any reinforcementwould require to be made up under the Compulsory Act. it further advised that it is proposed to forward a supply of display posters and placards setting forth the obligations imposed by the Act on reservist and employers and the penalties attached thereto. Under the War Regulations Act all .public bodies on the request of the Recruiting Board, aro compelled to display these posters, and any wilful defacement of these posters or placards is an offence under tlio Act. The board requests (lie couiieH to report any person neglecting or refusing lo do what is required by the (State as a war necessity. II was unanimously decided lo accede lo the requests embodied in the board V circulars, the members ot' the Various ridings being asked lo do all ill 1 licit* power at public meetings and fiuiclions held in their respective districts to bring t lie matter before the people.
