WOMEN'S NATIONAL RESERVE

TRAINING IN CLERICAL WORK. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August IM, The Women's National Reserve in Wellington has been working on a scheme for the training of women to take clerical positions in offices vacated by men going on active service, This scheme has advanced some way already, and a report has been supplied by the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon, G, W. Russell) on the results to date. "They have sent to me," said the Minister to-day, "a list of 100 names of women who are certified by Miss Myers to be qualified for clerical work, They .state also that should a larger number be required they are ready to supply'the names of many other suitable women when required. ' The 1 list includes 12 shorthand writers and typisrsj'ninc who arc typis's only, H 8 who are trained for general clerical work, and 48 women who are untrained in off)eo work, but. who are qualified for it, many of tliem being ex-teachers, The list is to lie forwarded to the Public Service Commissioners, and I have urged that the reserve should advertise that it is willing to supply clerks or typists to employers who require them. This branch of the work is a part, of a-move-ment which'is general throughout New Zealand. lii'Christch'iirch and Dunedin, and also to a certain extent in Auckland, similar work is beind done.
