August it ■Members'of the City Recruiting Committee were informed by General Robin to-day that :i;l of the Military Service Act J which makes special pro-vision-for. the'calling up of members of one family, will be put into operation as from the enrolment of the first division, which will be commenced o'n September 1. The section in question, which is designed to meet the cases of certain families, from which no members have enlisted, provides that if the Minister of Defence is satisfied with respect to any' family that consists of or includes two or more brothers who belong to the first division, and who are not permanently unfit for military service, he may st any time after the enrolment of tin) lirst division give all or. any of them notice to show cause to the Military Service Board \\\\\ they should not be called up for service, Both the Officer Commanding the District and members of the Utiy Recruiting Committee have taken note of the large number of cases which will come under the operation of this section, and notwithstanding the fact that the drafts for the immediate future are fully subscribed, it is felt that the men in question should receive prompt attention, The question of the Military Service Boards to be appointed for hearing appeals under the Military Service Ad was also discussed. II was represented by members of the committee that the proposal to" J have one board only for each island was inadequate, and I hat there should be one board for each military district. Sir Alfred agreed with this suggestion, and the mailer will be further discussed with him before lie leaves the city.
