I FAREWELL SOCIAL. ' A well-attended and enthusiastic farewell social was tendered to Private Nicholas Qnigley, in the Atliena-um Hall, Herbert, on Tuesday evening. Proceedings commenced with the National Anthem. The chair was occupied by Mr James Frame, who in a fine ad'.lrcss spoke of the guest as belonging to a fighting family, as Private Qnigley is the third member of his family to'join the Expeditionary Forces, The first, Richard, died of wounds on Gallipoli.' I the second was invalided home, arid the, j third was now going into camp, chairman hoped the departing soldiij' . > ) . would have a successful time and returihw bearing the honours of war. The following contributed to the en> lertainment in a highly commendable manner:—Miss lnglis, piano selection, Misses Allan and Kit-ton, and Messrs R. Hntton, Fleming, Robertson, P.,Waites. and J. Shaw, songs; Miss Kir'ton al s & gave a recitation. Misses Fleming, Robertson, lnglis, and Airs Forbes played the accompaniments. The Rev, P. C. Ronnie made the presentation of a money belt ami pocker book, and slated that at school Private Qnigley had taken, when Mr Fleming (the headmaster) was unable to do so° the cadet drill, with much satisfaction' Mid he would not now be one of the "awkward squad," but would be able from the beginning to help others who had not been so fortunate. He wished him God-speed and a safe return At the close of the programme ahearty supper was enjoyed by all. Votes of thanks to the performers and the chairman were heartily given,
