DISMISSED POLICEMAN.
OFFICIAL INQUIRY. (Per Tress Association.) GREYMOUTH, August 18. The Commission, consisting of M,r 11, W, Bishop, S.M., nnil Police Inspector Norwood, and Mr Crowther, a retired Customs officer, completed hearing of evidence hero regarding the charges 'which led to Hie dismissal of Peter Moloney, from the police force, Maloney was dismissed for alleged gross misconduct in that, he received £<l 10s by falsely representing that the money was owing to Patrick Dinan, by whom the vouchers were signed, for seavengering fees. Dinnn said he did not, at any tome do the work. 'He did not even know where the police latrines were, Maloney deniod absolutely stating that the work was done by Dinnn, and produced n letter from Dinan, iii which Dinan said he was told that he was not attending to the latrines regularly, and declaring that he attended to' them twice weekly in warm and once a week in cold weather. This letter Dnian said he copied from a letter written by Maloney. The letter in question was not produced at the official inquiry prior to Maloney's dismissal, The evidence before the Commission was mainly the question of creditability, The Commission's report is returnable to the Government before tl\e 31st inst.
