THE SALVATION ARMY
COMMISSIONER RICHARDS' SUCCESSOR. (Per Pross Association.) WELLINGTON, October 5. Intimation has been received iu Wellington, from the Salvation Army international headquarters in London, that Commissioner W. J. Richards, who is under orders to transfer to. Canada in succession to the late Commissioner llces, who was drowned in tho Empress of Ireland disaster, will himself be succeeded as Territorial Commander in New .Zealand by Commissioner Henry C. Hoddcr, who lias for several years been in command of tho Salvation Army iu Japan, but who is at present in England.
Commissioner Hoddcr is an officer of 32 yoiirs' standing, and has come right up through tho ranks liko Commissioner Richards. . He is described as being a fine..capable, man,, with an equally capable wife. They will be royally received by all Salvationists. The Army pcoplo here arc said to feci that while they arc all sorry, and regret the circumstances that'in the Army's interest takes away their present Commissioner, the same wisdom which appointed the present leader will prove itself worthy of trust in the new appointment, and that the new Commissioner will maintain,the present position of tho Army, and also help to forward it still further. The exact date of the arrival of the new Commissioner will be notified later. Commissioner and Mrs Richards arc to "farewell" at Wellington on Sunday and Monday, October 25th and 2b'th.
