WAIMATE KING EDWARD MEMORIAL.

A meeting of i the King' Edward; Memorial Committee was held in the Borough Hall ' on • (December ,3rd. There were present The' Revs, M, Gibson and Father . Aubrey, 7 . and Messrs Frahcis (Miaybr), .Hamilton, Hassall, E. O. Studholme, Torlessev Garland, Miller, Collett,. Sanders, and'Bremner, An apology was received from Mr Hart. . Mr Francis occupied the chair.

' Only two were received,-and that of Mr J. ,W. Mills, of Oamaru, at £253 7s, including stone ; steps with nosing, for the sameiiwork was £3OO 10s, Mr. Mill's tender for stone base with concrete steps' was £240 3s, and your commi'tteti , felt . justified /' in adopting the better structure in view of 'the small difference in cost, "Tour committee has placed an order for the'necessary iron work, at £52 10s,. delivered' in Waiinate, the design -being the- nearest -procuratUe - in accordance with your instructions.

| -'-'Plans , and specifications have been prepared of a roof as specified by the general committee, on the lines of the Rotorua rotunda, 'but the estimated cost—£l4o-greatly exceeds the building committee's expectations. The cost has been increased in ; some measure by the provision of a J - convex ceiling, this form of construction adds greatly to the acoustic properties of , a rotunda for band work, and we are advised that no other 1 form would be satisfactory, To complete the work on these lines will! require, about. £IOO. more-than the treasurer has in sight-} an ■estimate for at plainer roof. wiil be 'laid before you, . and . the; committee trust 'that ways and means will be found of completing the rotunda to the satisfaction and approval of all concerned,"

The report was adopted, although members were rather disappointed at finding the cost would exceed . the estimates by nearly £IOO. Suggested alterations in the were made with the view of reducing the cost, 'but it was decided to carry out the original plan, if possible, and that means fo devised to raise additional funds to complete' the work.

A deputation, consisting of Messrs Bremner, Hamilton, Torlesse, and Father Aubrey are to interview the Borough Council for a further.grant of £SO in aid. of the memorial funds; - -

I,t was resolved that the townaind' adjacent suburbs be divided into sections, and'ten canvassers be appointed to canvass for aid towards this object.
