WAITAKI ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting rjf the Waitaki Acclimatisation Society was held last night, when there -were present Messrs Glen (president), Mitchell, Swinard, Drummond, Sinclair, Duncan, Farr, Familton, M'Phail, Sumptcr, and Jones. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was received from the Waimate Branch asking when copies of the new rules would be available. It was decided to make a further appeal to the Registrar to expedite the work of revising them for printing.

Mr T. A. Munro wrote forwarding the name of a qualified person who would inspect the 1 Society's deer forest and report on the statement as to malforms existing there. The offer was favorably entertained, and it was decided to ask Mr Munro to request the applicant to communicate with' the Society on the subject. Mr Munro also wrote regarding the erection of a hut for stalkers, and 5n respect to this it was decided to ask Mr Munro to supply the Society with further information as to cost, etc.

Mr E. J, 'Atwill, Waimate, wrote regarding white guinea fowl, offering to do what he could to supply the Society with a pair. The Otago Acclimatisation Society wrote regarding the license fee for next season's stalking, and also the date of opening.

It was deci'ded to reply that! it was at the request of the Minister that the fee was fixed at £3 last season, and that the date of openin? would be further- considered, Mr Snmpter brought up the subject of poaching in the Kalcanui River, and suggested that a ranger be put on. At present'the large fish were taken out illegally, ileaving onlv the small fish for the licenseholders. After discussion it was decided that steps he taken to suppress poaching. The Ground Committee reported bavin? ordered four seats for the use of visitors to the grounds of the Society ;. that the birds were in (rood order, ami the ova in the hatchery were coming along well; that two pairs of mallard ducks had been presented to the Hamnden Boroueb Council; and that 50,000 brown trout fry had been liberated in the Wnitnki. Messrs Parr and Familton were appointed the Ground Committee for the month. Accounts amounting to £2O 10s 3d were passed for payment.-
