Wellington, August 1. The following is the High Commissioner's report, dated London, • 30th July: The mutton market is weak, for although the supply is only moderate there is poor local demand. The average prices to-day aro: Canterbury 3-Jd, North Island'3l(l. The" lamb market is steady, with better demand, holders being less anxious to sell. Canterbury 4Jd, other than Canterbury 4Jd. Beef is in better .demand, and the market is firm, with a hardening tendency. Supplies of chilled beef, are Bmall, New Zealand hinds to-day being 3-ld, feres 2Jd. The butter market is quiet but steady, and the good demand continues for best quality, The supply of New Zealand is practically exhausted, and prospects for next season are encouraging. Dunish 114s, Siberian 100s.

The cheese market is steady with an improved demand. White 575, colored 555, Tho hemp market is dull and declining, and poor business has been done, New Zealand good fair on spot £24, fair grade £2llos. The wheat market is firmer, owing to tun wet season. Now Zealand long-berried on spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4961b5, brings 34s 6a, New Zealand short-berried 33s 6d.

The oats market is quiet. New Zealand short (sparrowbills), ex granary, on spot, per quarter of 3841bs 18a ; New Zealand Danis'a, ex granary, on spot, per quarter of 3201158,16s Cd, The beans market is quiet but steady, and New Zealand f.a.q. For prime cbafl and good sound lines of potatoes there was fair competition, but in other respects the Bale proved somewhat slack, and a proportion of the catalogue was passed in for private Bale. Values ruled as under; Oats.—No business of any importance has transpired during the week,. Shippers' limits do not allow any profit on prices asked by holders, They are therefore, content to buy only for actual orders.
