The Committee of the Horticultural' Socioty has every reason to regard with satisfaction its achievements of the past.few year*. It has not only established tho popularity of its periodical exhibits, it has served the community by cultivating tie love or and it has had a distinct influence in the increased interest which is novr taken in the appoaraneo of the "quarter-acre lot." The spring show, which was held in the Drill Hall yesterday, marked another advance- in the Society's history, tho exhibition being more'largely eutorod than last year (the accommodation being jus I comfortably occupied), and the individual exhibits showing a distinct advance in quality. Some- splendid; blooms were staged, which duly attracted attention, but it is no small praise to say. of the exhibition as a whole that the number of these was larger and that they were not relatively so prominent. As was the case last year, the strength of the show lay in the collections forwarded, by enthusiasts for exhibition only. Poremost among them was. Mr J.Branthwaite, whose collection occupied 20 lineal feet of tablo space. He showed some excellent ...hyacinths, prominent among them'boing I&, Franchise, King of tho Blues, Blondin, Mont Blanc and others. Narcissi were numerous, fine specimens of Bridal Veil, 'King Alfred, St. John's Beauty, Barbara Holmes, Argent, Apricot, Albatross
