After confirmation of the minutes, ] tho Engineer rend his report on rotuj works, etc., for last month, viz. : Upper Pareorn liiding.-Collier'i Bridge; The absence of the stringer booms still delays progress with this bridge. The earthwork approaches at both ends, and protection of banks against attack by the river, nbovo and about the bridge site, have been made suico last meeting, little more than tho timber superstructure now remainsto lie completed, and a week will sulfa for this when timber arrives. Improvements made by the Council's teams on the road connecting the old Bine Clilis and (Jordon's Valley via Donoghne's, and a short length o! gravelling done on Cnl>i,m>« Tree Point line. On the back line Ihe timbers for erecting a footbridge across Elder's Creek are delivered at the

crossing, and will soon lie placed in position. Satisfactory arrangements have been made for building a travelInn' hut for accommodating the surfaceman, which will be ready for use l,v the end of June. 'Lower Vinwm ftiriiiig.-Lynlklnlc-l'areora roads (metalling): -Most of the metalling of this contract is well iorwnrd, and a start will soon be made with"*the earthworks on the Lyalldale line fronHiug Barnes's properly. The concrete pipe culvert, beneath the earthwork lilting will be in this week, to be set before tho embankment is built on it. The labor stall' at present consists of live threehorse teams and 15 men. With regard to better accommodation of the Coun-

cil's surfaceman in this riding it has been decided to inspect and ascertain the suitalriliiy of a travelling hut offered for sale, ami which, with _ some repairs, may bo made lit for this purpose. Should it satisfy the Council's requirements, the Council would perhaps authorise its purchase by (lie member (or the riding, so that the man

may have the use of it as soon as repairs' can be effected. Directions have been given to have the few Jmbis of footpath formed leading to the church on the Main South road. This can be done with the'inelal screenings taken from the St. Andrews metal pit, closo at hand. Materials are ready for fencing Eraser's embankment, in Paroora No. 2 Settlement, and will be erected as soon as a man can be got to do the work. The Council's team is at present forming n nd grading the road side width between Mahcr's and the Main South road, which will occupy tin team a few days yet; upon completing which the team will shift to _ th< Springbnnk road, in the adjoining' riding. Otaio Riding.—Daisy Hill road | (metalling, and Sod Wall road (metalling) : These contracts are completed, and tho maintenance conditions being fulfilled. Until recently two men were employed on the former work. In the matter of the additional sections adI joining the Council's Tavistock property, proposed to be leased from Mr Tosehcinnkcr and others, Mr Teschemaker Ims cancelled the fencing conditions of his former oiler, giving the Council the option of them for five years conditionally on the clearing and grassing of them, and payment of an annual Vilal of one sliillingV l ' s,vlion.
