FATAL mM RACING.
A shooking'"'acoideut, by whioh two persons lost their lives and several others wero seriously injured, ocourred iu the final of the five miles motorbicycle race at Bristol Post Oihcp Sports on Saturday, May 24, The riders left in for tho final wero:—T. H, Tessier, Londou; G, A, Barnes, London; E. Kiokham, Bristol; and P. O. Bailey, Bristol. Kiokham retired at tho end of the first lap through his chain breaking, but tho threo remaining 'competitors went ou without mishap until'tho middle of tho third miW. Barnes, who had oompleted eight laps, was then about to pass Bailey, w-«o had completed nine, Bailoy looked around, and in so d'oiug sworved his motor on to the uppor part of the embankment, Barnes managed to pass him on the outside, but on descending on to the lower level of the track his machine slightly wobbled, Bailey inir mediately cut into him, causing Barnes's machine to skid, and both men and motors were thrown amongst the crowd) of spectators. Several people were rondored unconscious and severely injured, Bailey, who was riding a motor of'two and a half horse novor and llOllj weight, escaped with a slight injury to his face; but Barnes, who was riunig a 2J horse-power motor, was very badly hurt in the face and legs, and was taken to Bristol Royal Inh'rmcry as were also ten spectators. The cases of Govey and Marks, two young lads, were ueeni? Ed hopeless 'from tho time of their adi missiohj their injuries being of a terribl'e desoriptiion, and both expired later. ' Although the programme had not'been-completed the sports, whioli were'attended by 8000 people, wero abandoned after the acoicient, "A sad accident occurred in Dairy Road, Edinburgh, on Saturday, a wo-, man of 72 years of age named Eliza.' p'eth Weston or Henderson being killeii by a motor car as sho was crossing tho street from her own door.
