THE CASE OF MR BARTRUM.

A well-attended and representative meeting was held in Munro's hall last evening to decide ways'sm<j mean* of raising funds to show the appreciation of the people of the district of Kurow, and those using the Oam-aru-Kiuow line to Guard li-u'trum for his faithful and courteous services whilst on this line.
Dr Stevens was voted to the chair and in the course of his remarks said that it seemed that ;Ulli< m .-li everyone making use of the line agreed mil something should he done, it was evidently left for Kurow f 0 take the initiative, and he fell sure that it was only necessary lo «-pproacli people on the subject to get a large amount of support, for it was a case -jn" which people were anxious vo show their respect to Mr Bartrum in a substantial maimer.
A letter was handed in from Mr 0, R. Wise, of Oamaru, offering Ids >.elp in any steps taken in the direction mentioned, and it is needless io say I hat his services will be accepted and highly appreciated. A letter of sympathy and P.O. order was received from Mr II SelhSmilh; ol Ngapara; also promise of a guinea from Mr Bloxham, of Oamarama, and a subscription from Mr J. Preston, of Black h'orjst Station, and several others promised subscriptions in the room,
Mr Duican said that lie did not knowof any such deserving case since lie had Leon in the district, an!; lie felt sure that the efio'ls oftlie eeling would he successful, as (iuard Barlrum commanded universal respect and sympathy. The following yntleinen were appointed n committee U carry out the wishes of the meeting': The Hev. Mr Fyjics-t'linlon, Messrs T. A', Munro, C. A. Ilille, J. Uoberum, C. M. Broad, J, Barclay, W. Barclay,. K Ct 'A. Ilille, and Dr. Stevens. Mr T. A. Munro was elected Secretary andTrea surer.
U was unanimously decided to send uit lists at once for collections of unds .to the various places in flic listrict of Kurow and to all places lelwcen Kurow and Oamaru.
The meeting closed Willi avoteof lanlis to the chair.
