POLITICAL NOTES.
(by telegraph.) Wellington, June 29. Mr T. Mackenzie, member for Clutha, has definitely accepted, for a term of three years, the position of London agent for the Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association. He leaves for the Home Country at the close of the session. On dit, that strained relations exist between the Premier and Minister of Mines, I and that the latter is anxious to be re- | lieved of office on the plea of ill-health. j The Opposition will to-morrow consider what action should be taken on the bankJ ing question. It is understood that an amendment will be proposed to the Premier's motion for reference of the whole matter to a Royal Commission, with a judge of the Supreme Courb as chairman ; and failing this an effort will be made to* limit the scope of the enquiry subsequent to 1893. The Premier, m insisting that it should go back to 1887, told the Ministerial caucus on Saturday that he was anxious to include m the Parliamentary Committee's scope the report of Mr Geo. Buckley on the Bank of New Zealand and certain accounts that were written of about that time m connection with it. There is no doubt it is hoped to make political capital out of this.
