AUCKLAND.
June 29. Frederick Gray, aged 16, third son of Chas. Gray, of Hiteo, North Kaipara, was drowned m the Hiteo river v.iile going down the river on a large log after rafting some logs. He fell off and was unable to swim. Thos. Wylie was fined L 2 and 30s costs for having executed a transfer of shares m the Katie Goldmining Company m which the name of the purohaser was nob written m ink at the time of execution. The defendant pleaded guilty. Sergt. -Major Doughty, of the A Battery, was wounded on the arm and eyelid by a splintered bullet while marking at the Mount Eden range.
